Mobile devices include the laptop computer, Smartphone, tablet PCs, notebook computers, and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). The most common type of mobile computer is the laptop. Laptops are compact and are battery-powered, so they are convenient to take with you. Unlike the laptop, notebook computers do not have a DVD-ROM drive.
Minicomputers include Netbooks and tablet PCs. Smartphone’s are also minicomputers. Even high-end MP3 players are considered minicomputers. The Smartphone allows users to make calls and view web pages, use text messaging and have GPS available. They are considered a cell phone, PDA and minicomputer all rolled into one.

Most experts’ list five elements of a computer based information system. They are hardware, software, data, procedures, and people. Some experts also add a sixth element: communications. Hardware is the computer itself, with all other peripherals needed. The software is a very important component. Without it, the computer would do nothing. Software tells the hardware how to perform its duties.
Data is information and software cannot function without it. The procedures are the rules, instructions and descriptions for doing things. People, of course, are most important, because without them, the computer cannot turn on. People are the ones who design the software, operate it, input the data and build the hardware to keep things running.
